n-Butanol
A straight chain isomer with the alcohol functional group at the terminal carbon.
n-Butanol is a colourless, neutral liquid of medium volatility with a characteristic odour.
Features:
- Exhibits medium levels of volatility.
- 7-8 % miscibility with water.
- Miscible with all common solvents such as glycols, ketones, alcohols, aldehydes,
ethers and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. - Can be used in organic synthesis and as a chemical intermediate.
- Can be used as a paint thinner and a solvent in other coating applications where
relatively slow-evaporating latent solvents are required, such as in lacquers and
ambient-cured enamels. - Has a highly alcoholic aroma.
